That\u2019s an a-bomb explosion in the background.  The novel is about nuclear terrorism and a being from the fourth dimension, you understand&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/lwru.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>We were in San Francisco for Live Worms art show this weekend.  It was nice to see the gang from our<a target=\"blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/2007\/07\/08\/painting-in-caunes-france\/\"> painting workshop in Caunes <\/a>last summer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/dregbook.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>I stopped by City Lights Books of course, and saw my college roommate Greg Gibson\u2019s new book <em><a target=\"blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hubertsfreaks.com\/\">Hubert\u2019s Freaks <\/a><\/em>on display.  I really like this book; Greg\u2019s a great story-teller, and there\u2019s some interesting <a target=\"blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mediabistro.com\/galleycat\/party_hopping\/at_last_nights_huberts_freaks_event_insanity_and_hilarity_ensue_81946.asp \">controversy <\/a>surrounding the book.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/lwcityview.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A reader with the handle \u201cWendyMeat\u201d\u009d sent me a link to a <a target=\"blank\" href=\"http:\/\/technology.newscientist.com\/article.ns?id=dn13657\">New Scientist article<\/a> about non-conventional computer hardware.  It mentions some of the ideas I&#8217;ve written about as possible computers in my SF: the molecules in a glass of water (<em><a target=\"blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0765320398\/ref=nosim\/?tag=rusbl-20\">Mathematicians in Love<\/a><\/em>), Belusov-Zhabotinsky scrolls in an excitable medium (<em><a target=\"blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/postsingular\">Postsingular<\/a><\/em>), waves on water (\u201c<a target=\"blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/2007\/11\/25\/the-perfect-wave\/\">The Perfect Wave<\/a>\u201d\u009d), and slime mold (<em><a target=\"blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/038078159X\/ref=nosim\/?tag=rusbl-20\">Freeware<\/a><\/em>).  So where\u2019s my MacArthur prize, awready?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/lwalley.jpg\"\/><br \/>\n[Jack Kerouac alley in the light of morn.]<\/p>\n<p>I dug out a quote relevant to my ruminations on death in my <a target=\"blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/2008\/04\/10\/the-problem-of-death\/\">\u201cThe Problem of Death\u201d\u009d post<\/a>.  In <em>Gravity\u2019s Rainbow <\/em>(Penguin edition, 2000, p. 761), Thomas Pynchon imagines \u201csome angel stationed very high watching [our lives], being carried on under a sentence of death whose deep beauty the angel has never been close to&#8230;\u201d\u009d <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/lwcomix.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>[A mock Moon Mullins strip that\u2019s part of a mural inside Coit Tower.]<\/p>\n<p>I contributed to John DeNardo\u2019s SF blog, <a target=\"blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sfsignal.com\/archives\/006547.html\"><em>SF Signal<\/em><\/a> for a \u201cMind Meld\u201d\u009d feature with writers commenting on the markets for SF stories.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/lwharbor.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Rick Kleffel posted the entire (short) interview that he excerpted for his short NPR piece about fears that the Large Hadron Collider will destroy Earth.
