One Last Post From Bruges."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Merry Christmas, ya\u2019ll!  I\u2019ll be posting on Charles Stross\u2019s <a target=\"blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.antipope.org\/charlie\/\"><em>Charlie\u2019s Diary <\/em><\/a>for a week or two.  I\u2019ll probably put my first post on <em>Charlie\u2019s Diary<\/em> today.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images3\/brurumagritte.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Where am I?  Inside which reflection?<\/p>\n<p>Before I go off into Christmas and <em>Charlie\u2019s Diary<\/em>, here\u2019s a <em>Rudy&#8217;s Blog<\/em> post with images of Bruges.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images3\/brugeswireloop.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Cool wires on the electric train lines in Belgium.  Ambient abstract art.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images3\/brugessunset.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>One of the big things in Bruges is the canals.  At one time, the town was linked to the North Sea via a river which then silted up, leaving the town as a literal backwater.  And, ah, that early winter sunset over a canal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images3\/brugescanalref.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>I lover pictures of reflections.  Imagine walking down these old stone stairs into the wobbly mirrorworld inside the ancient  canal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images3\/brugesbridge.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The upside of being a backwater is that Bruges was spared the brutal and destructive waves of war and redevelopment that convulsed the second half of the 20th Century.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images3\/bruruzot.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The have a local beer called the Zot, or the Fool.  Love it.  Zot is like sot.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images3\/brugeslace.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Lace is still big there, although one suspects that these days a lot of the Belgian lace is made in China.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images3\/brugesdogbann.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Cool old Gothic banister that looks like a dog. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images3\/brugesgodeye.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>I love the God\u2019s eye icons you see.  The eye in a triangle in a set of rays.  I think I described one of these in <em>Hylozoic<\/em>.  The point at infinity.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images3\/brugeslion.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Great old fountains with lion\u2019s mouths.  I like the medieval notion of turning everything into an animal.  It\u2019s all alive.  Our future form of computation.  No chips, no biotech, just quantum computing things.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images3\/brugesweathervane.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>You don\u2019t need a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing.<\/p>\n<p> I\u2019ll be back on <em>Rudy\u2019s Blog <\/em>in early January.
