Farewell Gotham!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/gotham.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Something great about the New York subways is the mosaics in many of the stations.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/dwell0.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p> I particularly like the station at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nycsubway.org\/perl\/stations?202:1767\" target=\"_blank\">28th and Broadway<\/a>.   These terrific mosaics are executed by some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travisanutto.it\/english\/opere.asp\" target=\"_blank\"> Italian craftsmen<\/a>, working from paintings by the the New York artist Mark Hadjipateras &#8212; when I first saw them, I&rsquo;d imagined them to be by the cartoonist Jim Woodring.<\/p>\n<p> There&rsquo;s even a cute <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alter-image.com\/scottwinston\/qt\/citydwellersqt.html\" target=\"_blank\">animation\/movie<\/a> online of Hadjipateras with some of these images come to life; he calls them &ldquo;City Dwellers.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/dwell2.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>I think I&rsquo;ll use the guy in the second picture as a model for some aliens to show up in <i>Mathematicians in Love.<\/i>  I may call them Jimbos.<br \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&rsquo;m back in stunny Californee.
