In terms of prime factors,<br \/>\n<br \/>2207 = 3 * 3 * 223.  Lots of 2&rsquo;s and 3&rsquo;s, which I like.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/kfjcru.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, January 7, 2007, I&rsquo;ll be live on the radio, from 4 PM to 5 PM in the afternoon, on the Billy Sunshine Show out of Sand City, California (near Monterey), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.krxa540.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">KRXA  540 AM<\/a>; note that you can listen to the show online using a link on their site.  It&rsquo;s a call-in show, so if you have time on your hands Sunday afternoon, phone in a question.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/gxpunkdoor.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>I got one more story for Flurb #2, the communistic &ldquo;Revolution Time,&rdquo; by  kibbutznik and young SF phenom, <a href=\"http:\/\/flurb.rudyrucker.com\/2\/2tidhar.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Lavie Tidhar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/gxbuilding.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>On Christmas Eve, the Sunday L. A. Times ran a full-page <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calendarlive.com\/books\/bookreview\/cl-bk-champion24dec24,0,5337368.htmlstory?coll=cl-bookreview\" target=\"_blank\">review<\/a> of my novel  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mathematicians-Love-Rudy-Rucker\/dp\/076531584X\/sr=8-1\/qid=1166117300\/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1\/102-1658792-4221767?ie=UTF8&#038;s=books\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Mathematicians in Love<\/i><\/a> and my story anthology <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mad-Professor-Uncollected-Stories-Rucker\/dp\/1560259744\/sr=8-9\/qid=1166117300\/ref=pd_bbs_sr_9\/102-1658792-4221767?ie=UTF8&#038;s=books\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Mad Professor<\/i><\/a>.  And the Barnes and Noble SF newsletter lists <i>Mathematicians in Love<\/i> as one of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnesandnoble.com\/newsletters\/newsletters_cds2.asp?PID=1401&#038;z=y&#038;cds2Pid=796&#038;linkid=819624\" target=\"_blank\">top ten novels<\/a> of the year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/gxseal.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Performing seal that I am, I wrote an answer for John Brockman&#039;s annual EDGE question, <a href=\"http:\/\/edge.org\/q2007\/q07_index.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;What Are You Optimistic About?&#8221;<\/a>  I wasn&#039;t feeling all that optimistic that day, but I hoaxingly pushed the ideas from my novel <i>Postsingular<\/i>, and that made me optimistic after all.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/gfamilyxmas.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>I&rsquo;ve been away from the blog because we were in New York City visiting daughter Georgia, son-in-law Courtney and granddaughter Althea.  It was lovely to be with them.  It&#039;s a little hard to believe I&#039;m now the visiting grandparent category! Sliding down the hill&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/alpeng.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>It&#039;s so great to see the new ones coming up!  Althea&#039;s favorite present was a second stuffed penguin, a &#8220;big peng&#8221; to go with her well-worn &#8220;little peng.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/gxairport.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>When I got home, I got into crunch mode on a short story called &ldquo;Hormiga Canyon&rdquo; that I&rsquo;ve been writing with Bruce Sterling.  I think it&rsquo;s gonna turn out well, and it&rsquo;s pretty long. According to the official SFWA (Science Fiction Writers of America!) categories, it&rsquo;s not a short story, it&rsquo;s a <i>novelette<\/i>:<\/p>\n<p>Short Story &mdash; 7,500 words or fewer<br \/>\n<br \/>Novelette &mdash; 7,500 &#8211; 17,500 words<br \/>\n<br \/>Novella &mdash; 17,500 &#8211; 40,000 words<br \/>\n<br \/>Novel &mdash; 40,000 words or more<\/p>\n<p>I always laugh over that word &ldquo;novelette,&rdquo; reminds me of the old Rowan and Martin <i>Laugh-In<\/i> show and they&rsquo;d have this foppy, drunk-seeming guy called Big Al pretending to be a newscaster, and he&rsquo;d introduce some segments of his fake newscast by picking up a little bell and tinkling it and saying, &ldquo;Featurette!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rudyrucker.com\/blog\/images\/antfly5.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Our novelette is about giant ants, something I&#039;d always wanted to write about, ever since the movie <i>Them<\/i> and the Blondie song, &#8220;The Attack of the Giant Ants.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year.
