The street people using hieroglyphs reminded me of something I found a while back. It's a list of Hobo signs I had always meant to use in a story somehow. Anyways thought you might be interested in these kind of modern hieroglyphs. You can find 'em: http://www.angelfire.com/folk/famoustramp/signs.html

Serious??? Listen to tapes??? Dude!!!

I just want to write about the attack of Amenhotep's mummy! And about people doing suspended animation in a sarcophagus while they astral travel into Flimsy. And about a 4D meta-hieroglyphic that looks like the Mandelbulb, and which functions as the New Lotus spell, exending the Lotus "spell of leaving in the daytime," called in Egyptian "rw nw prt m hrw," and which you might pronounce, "Row new port my harrow." The New Lotus spell leads to the Eye of Light.

Actually, I did pick up some good used Egyptology books at Logos in Cruz yesterday, the best looks to be "The Mummy in Ancient Egypt" by Salima Ikran and Aidan Dodsen, profusely illustrated, and with color plates, a bargain at $22.98.

If you're serious about doing Egypt, see if a library in your area has this set of Teaching Company lectures on Ancient Egypt by Bob Brier. It is an astounding series...absolutely blew my mind. My old car had a cassette player, and I listened that way; but I think they're on CD and some libraries have the courses on mp3 as well.
