Adam, yes there's a huge difference in the feel of blogging on BoingBoing and blogging here on Rudy's Blog. My site gets about a hundred thousand visits in a good month, while Boing gets perhaps thirty times that many, that is, three million.

Most of the people reading Rudy's Blog are here because they like my work or are interested in the kinds of things I talk about...and at Boing they're there for all kinds of different reasons.

So I did see a few comments on my Boing posts where people wouldn't really understand where I was coming from---they'd take what I said overly seriously---or maybe they'd want to argue, rather than playing with the ideas---or they might assume that I had no actual knowledge of the topics I talk about. It was a little stressful.

But I'm glad I did it, and I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to reach so many people.

Re. the comments, I'm kind of thinking about an SF story where people have telepathy and trolls are commenting on all of some poor guy's thoughts...

You must be be exhausted! I had trouble keeping up, just reading the posts and comments...
Lots of great stuff as usual. I'm sure you'll get more readers of this blog and your books because of it. I'm waiting for my copy of Hylozoic to arrive in the post any day now.

Well done guest blogging!

Boingboing has always struck me as interesting, because in some ways it is a sub-culture and appeals to particular sub-cultures, yet the readership is so wide these days, it really is more of a mainstream publication. And I would imagine writing for it is difficult, because that sort of thing would always creep into the back of the mind.

I for one love blogging because I can spout off whatever's on my mind, without (much) hesitation. But I guess it's pretty ridiculous to lament the "changes" in blogging, a recent, timeline format...

but anyway, yes, welcome back.
