Rudy, I'm falling in love with you. I read Spaceland back in middle school, and The Secret of Life a bit later and loved them both. Then I started The Hacker and the Ants and didn't care for it so I forgot about you for awhile. And then recently I started noticing posts about you and your blog on boingboing, so I was bookmarking them to read later. While in the library one day you popped into my head and I picked up Postsingular. I'm halfway through it and it's blowing my mind like a jet turbine. So i finally got around to checking out this blag and you're talking about a book involving Jim Woodring characters, I love that guy! The excerpt from the book you're working on sounds great. I picked up a few more of your books from the library but they're mixed in with a multitude of other library books, plus the boring sh*t I'm required to read for college, but anyway, after starting Postsingular I'm going to have to check out all your other stuff. I've tried talking about the plot of this book to some of my family but most of them haven't heard of nanobots before and the response I get to a plot summary is "Uh huh...". I also had a dream last night where I was using the orphidnet! It was excellent! But after I woke up I couldn't remember it very well... how realistic! xD So there's a nice ramble of a post for you. Thanks for everything.

I knew those jivas looked familiar somehow; I never thought of souls as colony organisms before though. Hmmm. I feel a new religion coming on . . .

What this looks like is that you are having a great time painting and inventing new worlds and people. And to sihirliyazilar, there's nothing wrong with planning a psychotic rampage as long as you don't actually do it.

shirliyazilar, there are endless paths through the forest of story. My way is to write something clever and multi-layered and somehow illuminating. And as a practical matter, it's dramatically not a good idea to kill off main characters in the first chapter and have the hero go to jail as an unrepentant murderer! Just because something is potentially true doesn't mean it makes for an entertaining story. Particularly in a novel-length work, one wants to see characters change and grow. But of course you're free to write your own version of a story, and, in time, maybe you could find a way to make it work.

Well, let me make another version of this story: The man comes in and understands immediately because of the noices that his girl friend or wife is having sexual intercourse with another man. Of course he is shocked and very angry, he goes to the kitchen and takes the carving knife, not to make noice with it but to knife the two people in the bedroom. He suddenly comes in the bedroom and knifes them both.
Now they are dead. There are blood flowing everywhere. The man calls the police and waits there until they come and capture him. Later he tells them: "I cleared my chastity. I'm not regretful." THE END.
------
Mine has become a tragedy. But this is natural. I 've written according to my society's own peculiar facts. That's all. In fact "overreacting" is accepted as a mannish property here so that we may not even see a man who is very easy about his woman as a real man and respect him. Something like a vicious circle.
