Automation of (and possibly by…and for?) the machines is one of the things I remember about Japan. I thought it was very intelligent to have toll road ticket dispensers that dispensed tickets at two heights. They automatically spit out the toll ticket at the right height for trucks and for cars.

Oh, and the grocery stores had entire aisles of noodle bowls. The last meal I had there before I left was udon noodles and shrimp…with a local (?) beer. The place was so unusual (relative to my Midwestern life, everything is unusual) that I feel that I simply must go back for another visit.

Very interesting talk in Kyoto. Made me think about the connections between Japanese Shinto and Hylozoism. It was great to finally meet you in person and thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

that fish is surreal.

The 10 days I sent in Japan about 10 years ago was the best 10 days of eating in my life. Of course I was eating on someone else’s nickel, and I how a tour guide most of the time.
