S, I'm using a pocket-sized SONY Cybershot: the new model DSC-T100 with 8 Megapixels and image stabilization. I was using the very first version of this camera from 2003 until spring, 2007, when I got this new one which is, like, SONY's fourth revision of the design. I think it's important that these cameras have Zeiss lenses. In using these cameras, you have to learn to:

(a) Hold the camera motionless while shooting (zen squeeze between breaths) (the new image stabilization feature alleviates this constraint somewhat, but not completely).

(b) Aim somewhat on instinct as in daylight you often can't see the image well enough in the viewscreen to really compse it. A related issue is that the camera doesn't fire until a fraction of a second after you push the button, so you often need to take multiple shots in order to catch the sweet spot of a moving phenomenon. Though you can learn to anticipate somewhat.

(c) Use Photoshop to crop, possibly rotate, and compose the picture. I like Ctrl+I+W for shadow removal as well; on that shadow/highlights menu you can move all the sliders and get a nice contrast. Ctrl+Alt+L for Autolevels can be good too, although it tends to reduce the warm tones.

The big win with a camera that fits in my pants pocket is that I carry it with me and use it a lot. I like the sensation of "working" an environment, finding the pictures. Whenever something pops my eye, I can shoot it.

Having the camera along helps me see better, although to as intense an effect as painting does. And if I happen to be alone, it keeps me company.

Hi Rudy,

I love the photos on your site. You've got a great eye. What kind of camera are you using? Thanks.
