I first read Freeware shortly after it came out 10 years ago. I think it is my favorite because of the mostly great character development. I also read it before the first two. Too bad the aliens don't need soil from the Midwest. We could enter into a lucrative trade agreement with our friends from afar--dirt for technology, plowshares for swords, something along those lines.
