In New Zealand, I was just using a pocket-sized SONY Cybershot, it was the DSC-T100. Since then I dropped it and broke the autofocus, and by now I've switched to a Canon G10 for casual photos and a heavy-duty Canon 5D when I don't mind the weight.

Re. SONY Cybershots, they're still good, but whatever you do DON'T get one that has touch-screen controls instead of buttons to control it. Touch screen controls are lousy because so often they don't respond and you have to tap over and over...and begging a computer interface for attention is not where you want to be.

Anyway, whatever the camera, the trick in getting it clear is just the standard technique---which does take some practice to master, really, it can take a few years of paying close attention to what you're doing. It sounds simple: (1) You hold really still while taking the picture and---particularly important with autofocussing digital cameras--- (2) you don't jab the shutter button down, you depress it halfway and wait a beat for the picture to come fully into focus. That's it, but, as I say, it takes practice. And learning to see the picture hidden in a scene is something that takes practice too.

It also helps to set the camera to spot-metering rather than averaging the light across the picture. And running the picture through PhotoShop after you're home can ameliorate a multitude of evils.

I am still amazed at the clarity of your pictures. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of camera did you use? Thanks for the great information. Many greetings!
